The technology known as CoolSculpting has been in the news lately; it is a safe, noninvasive technique that can get rid of stubborn fat without requiring any incisions or sutures. No downtime is necessary after a CoolSculpting session, meaning clients are back to work and their daily activities that same day. Despite all the information available, you may still have a few unanswered questions about this innovative technique. For instance, after CoolSculpting, where does all the fat go?
Fat Cells Don’t Stand a Chance Against CoolSculpting
CoolSculpting is a state-of-the-art, nonsurgical technique using Cryoplipolysis, or very cold temperatures to eliminate pockets of fatty tissue. Each session is custom-tailored to the individual patient using unique applicators that are specifically designed to sit snuggly against the skin of the target area. As the applicator slowly cools, the area will become numb, chilling the tissues and ‘freezing’ the fat through a process known as apoptosis.
During this dramatic drop in temperature, the walls of the fat cells are permanently damaged and collapse, while the healthy skin remains unaffected. Over the next three to four months, the damaged fat cells are metabolized by the liver and safely eliminated by the body. As this occurs, the area treated with CoolSculpting will begin to look smoother, flatter, and tauter. A single CoolSculpting session can offer between 20-25% reduction in fat.
Will the fat come back?
Everybody is born with a finite number of fat cells. Throughout our lifetime, this number of cells does not change. However, with weight fluctuations and hormonal shifts, these cells may shrink or expand. CoolSculpting will help the body to eliminate a portion of fat cells within a target area. Once the cells have been flushed away by the body, they cannot reform. This means that the sculpted results from CoolSculpting can be long-lasting. The best way to ensure your CoolSculpting results look good for years to come is to commit to a healthy diet and consistent exercise routine. Just remember, while the fat cells cannot come back, those remaining remain cells can still change in size with weight gain.
