Have you looked in the mirror and wondered where your double chin came from? A smooth jawline is part of a youthful appearance, which can unfortunately be sabotaged by the accumulation of submental fat. While no amount of weight loss or exercise will make a significant difference in the fight against a double chin, there is help on the horizon with Kybella.
What is Kybella?
Kybella is a unique injectable, designed to eliminate fatty tissue under the chin. From Allergan, the maker of Botox Cosmetic and Juvederm, Kybella has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a safe and successful method for decreasing submental fat without surgery. Made from Deoxycholic Acid, Kybella is a one-of-a-kind formula that leads to the disruption and death of targeted fat cells. The surrounding, healthy tissues will remain unharmed during the noninvasive treatment.
Could Kybella be right for you?
The ideal candidate for Kybella can be almost anyone: male or female, of any ethnicity or skin type. First and foremost, potential patients should be seeking to get rid of submental fat and improve the contour of the chin/jawline. Those interested in the nonsurgical approach should be in good health, understand the Kybella treatment process, and hold realistic expectations for the final results. If so, Kybella can prove to be the perfect technique for kicking a double chin to the curb. However, Kybella is not recommended for everyone.
Those with loose skin or experiencing a significant loss in tissue elasticity may find better results with a surgical neck or facelift. While the injectable treatment is excellent at eliminating fatty stores, the excess loose skin may not completely bounce back to shape, making the stretched tissue appear more prominent. During your consultation appointment, the doctors at Allegro MedSpa and Plastic Surgery Associates will determine if Kybella could work for your situation.
What is involved in a Kybella treatment plan?
Each Kybella session is performed in a private, comfortable treatment room at Allegro MedSpa. First, a local anesthetic will be applied for optimal comfort. Next, the provider will administer a predetermined amount of Kybella into the submental fat, using up to 50 very small injections. There is no downtime needed after a Kybella session, allowing you to continue with normal activities. While complications from treatment are rare, side-effects can include tenderness, bruising, and tissue hardness. However, these will quickly dissipate. The results from a Kybella session are not seen right away but will slowly appear over the next six to eight weeks. Only one Kybella treatment is needed to achieve optimal results.
